Michael A. Fabrizio, M.A., BCBA

General Course Information:

SAFMEDS

SAFMEDS stands for "Say All Fast a Minute Every Day Shuffled". SAFMEDS are basically flashcards. The front of each flashcard will contain textual information intended to occasion a given response. You will read the textual prompt aloud and then say the intended response from the back of the card (without looking first). For example, the front of the card might say, "Verbal response occasioned by a feature of the environment and maintained by generalized reinforcement" and you should say, "A tact."

I will post the content of the front and the back of each SAFMEDS card you are to construct on the class web site. The SAFMEDS cards will correspond to each of the three major goal areas of the course (analysis of instructional content, linking assessment to treatment, and data-based decision making.)

Your responsibilities will be to:

1. Actually make the cards - you may use whatever materials you would like, although 3"X5" blank flashcards will be just great.
2. Practice daily - since our time together will be so brief (three weeks!), I STRONGLY recommend you practice your SAFMEDS daily.
3. Track your progress on a Daily per Minute Standard Celeration Chart with appropriate charting conventions - we will spend time during our first meetings ensuring you have the skills to do this. I will also post information related to charting on the SCC (including charting conventions) on the course web site.
4. I will base your grade for the SAFMEDS activity on your performance. You may reference the student grade tracking sheet for a description of how I will assign points for this assignment. You must reach proficiency on both the verbal behavior SAFMEDS and the SAFMEDS that correspond to our textbook, Analyzing Instructional Content (click the materials link below to download both lists of SAFMEDS)
