EDSPE 524: Functional Behavioral Assessment

course objectives


At the completion of this course and the complementary practicum EDSPE 500, you should master several competencies which include:


1. Tenets of IDEA 1997, including functional behavioral assessment and behavior support plans.
2. Know and use a variety of data collection tools to analyze challenging behavior.
3. Develop hypotheses about the motivating functions of challenging behavior.
4. Use data from FBA process to develop behavior pathway summary.
5. Develop a behavior support plan based on the pathway summary.
6. Test the behavior support plan and analyze it using child performance data.
7. Apply one of 8 core strategies in the behavior support plan to increase or decrease target behaviors.
8. Use a case study format, develop an intervention plan, and assess its effectiveness.
9. Plan a behavioral intervention, record data accordingly for two weeks, and analyze its effectiveness
