EDSPE 524: Functional Behavioral Assessment

(Winter 2006)

Seminar Schedule:

Welcome to the class web site for EDSPE 524, Section U: Functional behavioral Assessment

The purpose of this course is to provide a solid foundation in the theory and practice of functional behavioral assessment (FBA). FBA has gained increased visibility since its mandated use in IDEA 97. We'll discuss when and how FBA must be used, but more importantly how to apply FBA as an analytic framework for children with challenging behavior. While much of the early use of FBA was with students in clinical settings with severe disabilities, we'll apply FBA to situations in schools. The goal is to demystify FBA so that teachers can use it in a practical and purposeful manner with children and youth. Finally, we'll apply FBA techniques in a case study (ies) of student(s) to develop Behavior Intervention Plans.

Please be aware that this course will teach functional behavior assessment (a process of descriptive analysis) and will not teach functional analysis (a process of experimental analysis).

The course is taught by Michael Fabrizio and meets on the Mondays listed at the left from 7:00 PM - 9:20 PM in 112 Miller Hall.
